What you can expect

  • There are 5 stops on our journey…

1: Moses's House - I'll start by inviting you into my house, to tell you my storey, from growing up in Kibera through starting my own tour company with a mission.
From there we’ll walk the railway tracks of Kibera, meeting the people.

2: Walk around to see the different villages and districts of Kibera, as well as local projects such as community water tanks and sanitation facilities funded by 30% of the proceeds from walking tours and by well-wishers and philanthropists.

We’ll also walk along the Kenya–Uganda railway, established between 1901 and 1902, to meet people as a local would and see an aerial view of Kibera.

3: Power Women’s Craft Centre - We’ll meet Rosemary who set up a workshop for women living with HIV. Collectively they remove the stigma of HIV by employing women with HIV to create crafts.Disadvantaged girls/women from the community, who can no longer pursue their education further due to lack of school fees, school drop out, early childhood pregnancy etc,are also given tailoring skills to sustain themselves.

4: VISITING WASTE HUB CENTRE/ ENVIRONMENTALISTS:We’ll see a corporate group based in kibera slums with mission to end poverty through waste by creating handmade African crafts. They use dead padlocks,timber/wood,brass and animal bones.
They source out bones from slaughter houses to convert them into finished products like bottle openers, lockers etc.
The ash from the bone, they can use that to make organic fertilisers to sell to the farmers outside kibera. The ash from the bones is also a chicken feed for locals who keep them. They create employment opportunities for local men and women and provide microloans to local people.

5:Master's Touch Bakery - At the finale of our tour, we’ll meet Nancy for coffee & fresh baked goods. Nancy will relate her storey of starting a business as a single mother and the adversities women face starting a business in Kenya.
