What you can expect

  • Embark on a profound journey into the heart of ancient Japan. On this half-day guided walking tour of Nara, your expert local host will bring 1,300 years of history to life, leading you through the ancient capital's most significant UNESCO World Heritage sites and spiritual landmarks.

Begin at Kofukuji Temple, the historic head temple of the Hosso sect. Admire the majestic five-storied pagoda—a iconic symbol of Nara—while your guide decodes its rich history and intricate wooden architecture designed to endure centuries of earthquakes.

Next, enjoy a pleasant walk through serene Nara Park. Encounter famous free-roaming deer, revered as sacred messengers of the gods in Shinto tradition. Learn how to respectfully observe and interact with these gentle creatures in their beautiful park habitat.

At Todaiji Temple, stand in awe before the Great Buddha (Daibutsu). Your guide will share incredible stories behind the creation of this monumental bronze statue and the massive timber hall housing it. Conclude at Kasuga Grand Shrine, famous for its vibrant vermilion corridors and thousands of stone and bronze lanterns framing peaceful forested paths. Leave Nara with an unforgettable appreciation for Japan's ancient spiritual origins.
