Naxos: Countryside Greek Cooking Class at an 1887 Windmill with Handmade Phyllo & Wine
Step into the peaceful countryside of Naxos and experience an authentic Greek cooking class beside a restored 1887 windmill, where grain, wind and tradition once shaped everyday island life.
Hosted by Maria and her family, this small-group experience is part of the Naxos Habitus cultural collection — a series of immersive encounters rooted in the island’s land, craft and living traditions. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed as a guest and introduced to the agricultural heritage that continues to define rural Naxos.
Handmade Phyllo & Traditional Spanakopita
During this hands-on cooking class, you will prepare traditional spinach pie (spanakopita) entirely from scratch.
You will:
Make handmade phyllo dough
Use fresh, seasonal ingredients from Naxos
Learn traditional folding techniques passed down through generations
Discover the cultural importance of grain in Greek village life
The Windmill & Rural Heritage
While your pie bakes, explore the historic windmill and learn how wheat cultivation once sustained local communities and shaped the rhythm of life on the island.
The Shared Table
The experience concludes around the family table, where you will enjoy your freshly baked spanakopita alongside homemade dishes and local wine.
Each guest participates in a thoughtfully designed two-stage experience, beginning with a symbolic pre-arrival message and concluding with a signature keepsake box inspired by the island’s harvest heritage.
An experience inspired by the island’s ancient harvest traditions.
