The Candle Procession is one of the most iconic rites in Fátima. During the major pilgrimages, which take place almost year-round, this procession carries the image of Our Lady to the altar in the Prayer Enclosure. The procession follows a route through the Prayer Enclosure, returning to the Chapel of the Apparitions. Established in Cova da Iria in the second half of the 1920s, the Candle Procession has its origin and inspiration in the tradition of the Sanctuary of Lourdes in France, and in Fátima, it reminds pilgrims of the symbolism of light, which is an expression of the divine in the apparitions of Fátima
