This historic promenade symbolises the city's cosmopolitan past and economic vitality. You will experience a striking contrast between the classical European-style buildings on the west and the futuristic skyline of Pudong to the east. Strolling along the illuminated walkway at night offers an unforgettable visual symphony of lights and reflections, embodying Shanghai's blend of heritage and modernity.

Yu Garden (Yuyuan)

Yu Garden, a 16th-century Ming Dynasty classical garden in Shanghai, exemplifies refined Jiangnan landscape architecture. Its highlights include exquisite rockeries, serene ponds, and historic pavilions, masterfully integrated to embody classical aesthetic principles. The adjacent Yuyuan Bazaar enhances the experience with traditional culture and cuisine, offering a profound encounter with China’s architectural heritage and philosophical traditions. Please note Yu Garden is closed on Mondays, we will visit the Jade Buddha Temple instead.

Old Town (Nanshi)

  • 30m
Adjacent to the Yu Garden, the Old Town Bazaar often referred to as Shanghai’s “Chinatown”，showcases well-preserved Qing Dynasty-style architecture. Stroll across the iconic “Nine Zigzag Bridge,” believed to bring good luck, and immerse yourself in the nostalgic atmosphere of old Shanghai. The bustling market offers a wide variety of souvenirs, including handicrafts, antiques, jade, pearls, and silk products. For a cultural break, consider joining a tea ceremony (at your own expense) to sample premium local teas in a traditional setting.

Former French Concession

  • 40m
The Former French Concession, established in the 19th century, is a historic colonial-era district in Shanghai known for its unique blend of European architecture and Chinese urban culture. Its tree-lined avenues, well-preserved villas, and tranquil ambiance distinguish it as an iconic area of the city. You can stroll along shaded streets such as Hengshan and Fuxing Roads, admiring the elegant shikumen and garden residences. The district also offers chic cafés, boutique shops, and cultural sites, seamlessly merging historical charm with modern sophistication, a refined glimpse into Shanghai’s cosmopolitan past.

Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road)

  • 50m
Nanjing Road, one of the world's busiest shopping streets, stretches through the heart of Shanghai with a history spanning over a century. It seamlessly blends colonial-era architecture with modern commercial grandeur, featuring prestigious department stores, global brands, and historic shophouses. You'll experience a vibrant atmosphere day and night, from luxury shopping and gourmet dining to illuminated neon displays. The nearby pedestrianised section offers a lively stroll amid cultural landmarks and traditional eateries, embodying both the dynamism and heritage of Shanghai.

Jade Buddha Temple

When Yu Garden is closed on Mondays, we will visit the Jade Buddha Temple instead. Founded in 1882, the Jade Buddha Temple is a serene Song Dynasty-style sanctuary housing two exquisite jade Buddhas brought from Myanmar. This active temple offers a profound cultural escape within urban Shanghai, combining religious devotion with artistic heritage.
