After leaving the Peace Memorial Park, you will head to the coast to take a ferry to the picturesque Miyajima Island. Known worldwide for its serene atmosphere and breathtaking natural scenery, the island is home to Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The shrine’s iconic “floating torii gate” is its most famous landmark, not only one of Japan’s most recognisable symbols but also a perfect backdrop for unforgettable travel photos.

Exploring Miyajima is full of delightful surprises. You can stroll through charming winding streets and visit ancient temples hidden among lush greenery. Be sure to try the world-famous Miyajima oysters, as well as momiji manju — a sweet maple-leaf-shaped pastry that offers an authentic local flavour in every bite. Along the way, you may also encounter freely roaming deer, gentle and friendly, adding vitality and uniqueness to your journey.
