What you can expect

  • Start with a morning pick-up from your hotel, hostel, or apartment in Panama City. Relax on the comfortable ride that takes you out of the city to the lush Chagres Rainforest.
Travel through the picturesque countryside, stopping to pick local fruit along the way. Climb aboard a traditional canoe or dugout and let the indigenous men paddle you through the green heart of the tropical rainforest on Lake Alajuela. You'll reach a stunning waterfall, where you can take incredible photos, before heading to meet the Embera indigenous community and cooling off in the water.
You will be welcomed into the community with traditional music and dances.
Learn about their culture before sitting down to enjoy an indigenous lunch of fried fish (tilapia) and patacones (fried green plantains).
Finish your meal on a sweet note with a bowl of sliced seasonal fruits. Attend a cultural performance of dance and music before having some free time to explore the community and purchase handicrafts. You will also have the opportunity to have your body painted with jagua ink. Return to your accommodation with memories of this beautiful experience.
