Experience the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle like never before—away from the crowds and surrounded by nature. Instead of taking the usual tourist route, we’ll hike up to the castle from a quiet, scenic trail that showcases the area’s peaceful beauty. Along the way, you’ll also enjoy stunning views of Hohenschwangau Castle and the crystal-clear Lake Alpsee. Best of all, everything is taken care of: hotel pick-up in Munich, a comfortable ride in an air-conditioned minivan, and a knowledgeable English-speaking guide to lead the way.
Our full-day guided tour begins at 9:00 AM, when we pick you up directly from your hotel or accommodation in Munich in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan. After a 2-hour drive to Hohenschwangau, we’ll start our hike with a walk along the tranquil shores of Lake Alpsee, surrounded by stunning alpine scenery.
Within just 30 minutes, you'll catch your first glimpse of the magical Neuschwanstein Castle—from a quiet vantage point rarely visited by the crowds. There’s plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the peaceful setting. In summer (June - August) you can even swim in the lake.
As we continue, the trail brings us to a breathtaking viewpoint of Hohenschwangau Castle, another castle where King Ludwig II and his family spent major time. From here, the path gently climbs through forested hills, offering panoramic views over the valley, Lake Alpsee, and the castles from unique and beautiful angles.
After around 2 hours of easy hiking, we arrive at Neuschwanstein Castle. You’ll have time to explore the grounds, visit the famous Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge), and take in the incredible scenery before we join the official English-guided tour of the castle at 14:55 (if available; alternatively an audio-guide in your language). Inside, you’ll learn the fascinating storey behind King Ludwig II and the fairy-tale architecture that inspired Disney.
To end the day, we take a short walk of 30 minutes back to the village & car park. You'll be back in Munich at around 7 PM.
