Kyaik Pun Pagoda is famous for its striking Four Seated Buddha statues, each sitting back-to-back and facing the four cardinal directions. Built in the 15th century by King Dhammazedi, the 30-meter-high images represent the Buddhas of this world cycle. Located just outside Bago, it’s a peaceful and unique site that reflects both spiritual devotion and classical Mon architecture.

Shwemawdaw Pagoda, known as the “Great Golden God,” is the tallest stupa in Myanmar at about 114 metres high. Over 1,000 years old, it enshrines sacred relics of the Buddha and has been rebuilt several times after earthquakes. Its golden spire dominates Bago’s skyline, making it one of the country’s most important pilgrimage sites.

Kanbawzathadi Palace is the grand 16th-century royal residence of King Bayinnaung, rebuilt to showcase the splendour of the former Mon kingdom. Featuring gilded halls, massive teak pillars, and a museum of excavated artefacts, it offers visitors a glimpse into Myanmar’s golden age of architecture and history.

At Kandawgyi Park, travellers will stroll along scenic wooden walkways beside the tranquil Kandawgyi Lake, with stunning views of the golden Shwedagon Pagoda shimmering in the distancThe Shwethalyaung Buddha is one of Myanmar’s most revered reclining Buddha images, measuring 55 metres long and 15 metres high. Dating back to the 10th century, it is celebrated for its lifelike expression and graceful proportions. Restored after being rediscovered in the 19th century, the statue remains a symbol of Bago’s rich Buddhist heritage.e.
