The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities—commonly known as the Egyptian Museum or the Museum of Cairo—is located in Cairo, Egypt, and houses one of the world's most extensive collections of ancient Egyptian artefacts. The museum holds around 120,000 items, with a portion on public display while the rest are kept in storage. Constructed in 1901 by the Italian firm Garozzo-Zaffarani, the building remains one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, it is open to the public. However, it is expected to be succeeded by the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, scheduled to open in 2020.
