Overview

Discover two of Albania’s most fascinating historical destinations on this private day tour to Apollonia and Berat. Apollonia, founded in the 6th century BC by Greek colonists, was once one of the most important cities along the ancient Via Egnatia trade route. Today, its archaeological park reveals impressive ruins including temples, an odeon, and other remains of this once-thriving city.

The journey then continues to Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “City of a Thousand Windows.” With more than 2,000 years of history, Berat showcases a unique blend of Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences. During this private experience, you will explore the city’s historic areas, rich cultural heritage, and remarkable architecture with your private guide.

During the 17th and 18th Century Berat was one of the most important cities in Albania and it also attracted citizens from all over the country to create settlements around the city. In this way, Gorica was created mainly as a merchant quarter especially with citizens from Voskopoja of South East of Albania. The white colour of the city and the style were preserved creating in this way a city with two similar faces on 2 sides of Osumi river, connected through the Stone Bridge of Gorica.

Mangalem

  • 20m
Mangalem is probably the most scenic part of Berat. Lied steply in the Hill, just under the castle, it is characterised by a typical Architecture, White walls and many windows seeing the its other copy, Gorica. Mangalem was structured mainly in the Ottoman period and was definitely shaped as today after an earthquake where some parts of the city were destroyed. The style changed from a heavy towers style with small windows and stone to a lighter structure, with more windows and way lighter.
