In order to recreate a miniature volcano eruption, they superheat real lava from the 1918 Katla eruption and once molten, pour it into a showroom full of people. It is an incredible, unforgettable experience. In an instant, the showroom heats up to a toasty temperature. And as the audience sits safe in their seats yet only a few feet away from the flowing lava, it is mesmerising to see, hear, smell and feel the incredible heat that radiates from it.
It is such an intimate, educational and entertaining experience and so different from everything else you've ever experienced, that you can't help feel in awe. Whale Watching: We start our trip from a beautiful harbour in the city centre and sail out to Kollafjöður, where you can see the island in the bay. Whale Watching departure at 09:00 & Lava Show at 14:00. Whale Watching departure at 13:00 & Lava Show at 18:00. The Whale Watching tour takes approx. 2-3.5 hours. Whale Watching departure at 14:00 Lava Show at 12:00 The Whale Watching tour takes approx. 2-3.5 hours. Provided with the faster boat so the time on the spotting area is the same, just sailing to that point and back to harbour is shorter.
