What you can expect

Get ready for an unforgettable half-day adventure in Tijuca National Park — the world's largest urban forest and a UNESCO-recognized treasure in the heart of Rio de Janeiro! This tour is the perfect mix of adventure, activity, and learning, combining ecotourism with an immersive journey through the Atlantic Rainforest, one of Brazil’s most important biomes, and its rich biodiversity. We'll hike 2 to 4,5 km (1.2 to 2.8 miles), with pauses, through rocky terrain, tree roots, and small boulders (moderate fitness required). The pace and distance are tailored to the group's fitness level. Along the way, you’ll discover the park’s history and cultural significance, and learn how it became essential in shaping Rio de Janeiro into the city it is today—one of Brazil’s most iconic and historically important places.

First, we'll pick you up at your selected pickup location in our comfortable, modern air-conditioned vehicle between 6:40–7:30 AM year-round for the morning tour, or in the afternoon between 1–2 PM. Pickup times will vary depending on your location. Then, enjoy a scenic 50-minute drive to the park’s entrance, where you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking 35-meter Taunay Waterfall, the tallest in the park.

After visiting Taunay Waterfall, we’ll drive to the next stop and venture into lush forest trails, uncovering hidden waterfalls like Cachoeira das Almas or Diamantina (depending on the season). Both offer the perfect spot for a refreshing dip, surrounded by the natural beauty of the rainforest. The adventure continues on the Caves Trail, where we'll explore the fascinating Belmiro, Archer, and Bats Grottos — the Bats Grotto being the largest gneiss cave in Brazil — all surrounded by towering granite walls that will take your breath away. To reach the caves, we'll hike along a trail of 20 minutes with an elevation gain of approximately 50 metres (160 feet). Rest assured, the caves are safe for exploration.

Stay alert for the vibrant wildlife that inhabits the park! While exploring, you might catch a glimpse of cuatis, monkeys, toucans, parrots, turtles, frogs, butterflies, and even sloths. Who knows what surprises nature has in store for you?

After exploring, we’ll recharge by the Cristalina or Baronesa waterfalls, before winding down with a visit to Gabriela Autumn — an ideal spot to relax, snack, and soak in the rainforest vibes. From May to September, the waterfalls are cold—get ready for a refreshing experience!

Next, we’ll stop at the Chinese Viewpoint (closed on weekends and holidays) for panoramic views of Sugarloaf, Christ the Redeemer, Copacabana, and more. Then we’ll return and drop you off at your pickup point.

All waterfalls feature crystal-clear natural water, sourced directly from the pristine water basins of the park. Waterfalls (2–5m) vary by season and climate. They form cascades, not deep pools, but offer refreshing showers—locals say they cleanse the soul!

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!
