The highlight is a visit to Te Puia, home to the NZ Māori Arts and Crafts Institute and the world-renowned Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. Experience an authentic Māori cultural performance featuring traditional waiata, poi, and haka, offering insight into the rich traditions and living culture of Te Arawa. Following is a guided exploration of Te Puia, including the national carving school, where master craftsmen preserve the art of traditional Māori wood carving. We also visit the Kiwi House for a rare opportunity to see New Zealand’s iconic kiwi bird in a specially designed nocturnal enclosure. Then on to the spectacular Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, where bubbling mud pools, steaming vents, silica formations, and geothermal landscapes reveal the immense volcanic power beneath Rotorua.
