Overview

The manor house in Svätý Jur, a town near the present Slovak capital of Bratislava, came into the possession of the influential noble Pálffy family in the late 1500s.

Svätý Jur was known to produce the best wines in the greater Bratislava region and played an important role in the growing, production and wine trade.

The tour presents the manor's rich history but also the present of the ViaJur winery - a modern and very ambitious winery.

Slovak wines are not well known outside of Slovakia but this is by no means due to a lack of quality. Rather, the terroir is so varied that few are produced in sufficient quantities for large-scale commercial export.

ViaJur allows you to taste some of the proud and high quality wines that Slovak winemakers of today can produce. You will find these can easily compete with wines from famous winemaking regions many times their price.

Tour the winery premises including production facilities and learn about the wines in a sommelier-led wine tasting. You will see a short film (with English subtitles) on the Four Seasons in the Vineyard to learn more about the work of the winemakers in this winemaking region steeped in tradition. You will sample five of ViaJur's award-winning wines from the Small Carpathian region.
