When the sky goes dark over Saariselkä, we set out to find the northern lights. You travel in a warm, comfortable car with a local guide who knows the area and reads the live weather and aurora forecasts in real time, choosing the best direction for the night and driving away from the village lights to where the sky is at its darkest.
The tour departs at 11 PM and lasts about three hours, the hours when the aurora is often at its most active. We make stops at promising spots along the way, where you can step out, look up, and take in the Arctic night. At one of our stops you warm up with a hot drink from the thermos and a small snack under the stars.
Your guide photographs the trip, and you receive the photos afterwards free of charge, so you can simply enjoy the moment instead of adjusting camera settings in the cold.
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed, but we do everything we can to put you in the right place at the right time. The group is small, with a maximum of eight guests, and the tour is guided in both English and Finnish.
Please dress warmly: layers, winter boots, a hat, and gloves are recommended. Departure is from a shared meeting point in Saariselkä.
