Discover Saint-Emilion in a different way with Gentleguide!
Learn about the fascinating history of this UNESCO-listed medieval town. Your tour starts in front of the Maison du Vin, where I will welcome you and explain the tour programme. We'll begin by delving into the origins of Saint-Emilion, exploring the legend of the hermit monk who gave the town its name.
As we wander through the cobbled alleyways, we will discover the remarkable architecture of the golden stone houses and the remnants of the town’s medieval past. You’ll be amazed by the Tour du Roy, a testament to the power of the local lords, before heading to the impressive underground church, carved right out of the rock.
We will then continue to the ramparts, which offer a spectacular panoramic view of the vineyards that have made Saint-Émilion world-famous. I will tell you about the town’s golden age during the Anglo-Gascon period, when its wine was exported as far as the English court.
Finally, we will end our walk with a gourmet stop, focusing on another local speciality: the famous Saint-Emilion macaron, whose recipe dates back to the 17th century.
