What you can expect

Your adventure begins with a relaxed meet-up on Scotland’s west coast, where you’ll be welcomed by your expedition leaders, issued high-quality sea kayaks and equipment, and briefed on the journey ahead. After a skills refresher and safety briefing, you’ll launch onto sheltered coastal waters and begin island-hopping through a stunning maze of sea lochs, skerries, and open crossings.
Over the following days, you’ll paddle through some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the UK. Expect crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and towering mountain backdrops rising straight from the sea. Routes are carefully chosen to suit the group and conditions, allowing you to build confidence as you travel between islands, explore hidden bays, and navigate tidal channels.
Wildlife encounters are a highlight of the journey. Seals often surface beside the kayaks, seabirds wheel overhead, and with a bit of luck you may spot otters along the shoreline. Your leaders will share local knowledge as you move, pointing out natural features, navigation techniques, and the stories that shape this coastline.
Each afternoon you’ll land on a remote shore to set up wild camp. Evenings are unhurried and social — sharing freshly prepared food, hot drinks, and stories around a beach campfire as the sun drops behind the islands. Nights are spent camping under vast skies, with the sound of the sea close by.
The final day brings a last coastal journey before returning to the mainland, leaving you with stronger paddling skills, a deeper understanding of expedition travel, and unforgettable memories of Scotland’s wild west coast. This experience is about journey, teamwork, and immersion — a true island-hopping adventure by sea kayak.Begin your adventure in the Arisaig/Mallaig area. Warm up with skills and safety before island camping, then explore sheltered lagoons, skerries, and beaches with unforgettable sunsets.

A highlight is the island crossing, drifting among seals, passing low cliffs and sea arches, and ending the day with a beach fire beneath starry skies. The pace is unhurried, the views are off the charts, and the wildlife is spectacular — from seals and otters to white-tailed eagles and harbour porpoises.
