Day 1: Arrival in Semera
Begin your adventure with pickup from Semera Airport. Enjoy a welcome coffee ceremony and an introduction to Afar culture. Visit a local Afar market for an authentic, non-touristic experience. In the evening, attend a sunset briefing about Danakil geology and Afar nomadic life. Overnight stay in Semera.
Day 2: Dallol & Lake Assale
Depart early for the Danakil Depression. Explore the vibrant hydrothermal landscapes of Dallol, one of the most unique geological sites on Earth. Walk across the salt flats of Lake Assale and meet Afar salt miners and camel caravans transporting salt blocks in the traditional way. Enjoy a sunset photography session before camping under the stars in the Danakil.
Day 3: Erta Ale Volcano
Drive through dramatic lava desert landscapes to reach Erta Ale, one of the few permanent lava lakes in the world. Hike to the crater at sunset and observe the glowing lava lake at night. Learn about the geological formation of the Great Rift Valley. Overnight at a basic crater camp near the volcano.
Day 4: Flight to Axum
Descend from the volcano and return to Semera. Fly to Axum and begin exploring this ancient city. Visit the impressive Axum Obelisks, the sacred Church of St. Mary of Zion, and the Archaeological Museum. Overnight stay in Axum.
Day 5: Axum Civilisation
Discover the legendary ruins of the Queen of Sheba's Palace, explore the Northern Stelae Park, and visit the ancient Royal Tombs. Enjoy a scenic countryside drive while learning about the powerful Kingdom of Aksum and its historic trade connections with Rome and Arabia. Overnight stay in Axum.
Day 6: Return to Addis Ababa
Fly back to Addis Ababa. Enjoy a traditional farewell lunch before transfer to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your unforgettable Ethiopian adventure.
