Start your hike from the Bairro de Santo António and follow the Rota do Javali to catch a glimpse of the humanized landscape with a panoramic view over the village of Manteigas and part of the glacial valley. Cross the interior of magnificent forests that fill the horizon with colours in soft shades of brown in winter/spring, green with white flowers in summer, and yellow and orange that merge in the foliage of autumn.

Climb to the top of the Leandres stream, which runs rapidly through cliffs and enclosed valleys, and feel the force of the “Poço do Inferno” waterfall, a natural 10-meter high waterfall. Along the way, explore the Casa da Guarda-Florestal dos Carvalhais, which played a key role in the afforestation and management of the region's forests, the Vale do Buraco, the oak grove, and the Moitas Nursery.

The balance between hardwood and resinous species, combined with the presence of water lines and scrubland areas, make this area one of the preferred habitats for various animal species.
