Experience a unique cultural adventure in El Alto, one of the world's highest cities, located at 4100 m. This tour combines spectacle, Andean identity, and female pride in an authentic and vibrant setting.
The cholitas wrestlers are a symbol of empowerment and cultural identity. Their fame transcends borders thanks to the strength with which they reclaim their roots, their role in society, and their presence in the world of wrestling. Their traditional attire-wide skirts, colourful shawls, braids, and hats-makes the spectacle truly special and unique, fusing tradition and sport in an unforgettable performance.
The show will feature wrestling matches between cholitas, matches between men and cholitas, and possibly matches between men. It will mostly be cholita women.
Programme:
We will take you safely to the Buhos Tours office (located between the Witches' Market and the San Francisco Church), a central and tourist-friendly area. From there, we will go to the Cholitas Luchadores show. The type of transport will depend on your preferred day (more information about the day is below the description). The wrestling experience lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. We will provide popcorn and a drink so you can enjoy the show. Afterwards, we will have an exclusive photo session with the Cholitas, and you will receive a souvenir of this activity. The bus will be waiting to take us back to city centre La Paz at 20h00 approximately.
Tours by Day:
Tuesdays and Thursdays - Cholet
The tour takes place inside a cholet, a typical El Alto building: modern, multistorey structures with colourful facades, Andean geometric patterns, and spacious rooms. These spaces reflect the economic and cultural success of the Aymara people and provide a striking and festive atmosphere for the show. * Return bus transport.
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays - Casa de la Cholita (House of the Cholita)
The experience takes place at the Casa de la Cholita, an authentic space where female wrestlers train. Here, you'll feel a sense of closeness and everyday reality, allowing visitors to witness first-hand the effort, discipline, and camaraderie behind the show. * Transport by cable car and bus.
Sundays - Traditional Coliseum
The tour is held in a traditional coliseum, complete with bleachers, a ring, and the classic atmosphere of Bolivian wrestling. This is the busiest day, ideal for feeling the energy of the local crowd and the excitement of the match. * Return bus transport.
