(Example of a “Grand West Lisbon Land Tour” day)
Start the day by acknowledging the Unesco Cultural Landscape of Sintra, a surface of 8 by 4 kms long, where amidst a boulder mountain near the Atlantic, human built patrimony moulded a unique site with a Castle, Palaces, Chalets, Estates, Villas, Monasterys, Fountains, Gardens, Dams, Streams, Waterfalls, Chapels, Ruins..
Realise the characteristics and mystifications attached to this particular land, its chronologically different inhabitants and investments, understanding when, who and why, crafted this unique World Heritage site;
Provided visual support of pictures, illustrations, maps and postcards, in the photo sights stops for each landmark, will give visitors the most complete free visiting experience possible while avoiding touristic pressure and traffic jams (still the guide is open to suggest and accompany guests to 1 or 2 visitable monuments, if thats their will);
A knowledgeable, experienced and passionate local guide, will have no problems suggesting alternative free visitation sites, like house museums of late local artists (like a former novelist, sculpture artist or cartoonist/illustrator), or a XVII century estate property with a beautiful garden with sequoias on a river bank;
As good ideas are always flowing, improvising a fish, and meat barbecue with royal salad meal, at one of the various public barbecue spots on the beautiful countryside, may provide a sense of belonging and bond true to the host Vs guest honours (can also suggest a typical local food restaurant as option if prefered)
On the afternoon, starting North to South on they Atlantic coast, typical villages like Azenhas do Mar and Almoçageme will be conveniently passed by as well as a suggested mountain bike trail will be suggested of about 6-7 km long and without hills, to appreciate picturesque architecture, chapels, cliffs, beach, vinyards and orchards
A stop at a beach for a drink or a swim will be presented as option, before heading for a small hike or bike on the westernmost point of Europe, “cabo da roca”;
Some 4x4 trails will be presented as a navigational way through the coast to see some geologic formations, archaeological sites, or even dinossaur trails.
Following south to the “sun coast” of Cascais, the appreciation of the old citadel, the boat bay, the beach of Tamariz, Casino Estoril, or the luxurious Hotel Palácio, where hiking or MTB cycling may be optimal ways to wonder through the Guincho Beach, the Cresmina Dune or the infamous Boca do Inferno.
