In a small, personal group, we explore Ålesund and discover how surprisingly much can be said about Norway in this picturesque coastal town.

The walking tour starts at the Fisherboy Monument. Along the waterfront, your guide will talk about Ålesund's history as a centre for the salted and dried cod trade, kilometer-long underwater tunnels, and how Norway's oil and gas wealth has changed society.

After a short break with coffee or ice cream, we will focus on the Art Nouveau for which Ålesund is known today. The city fire of 1904 fundamentally changed the face of the city: The centre was almost completely rebuilt within a few years. Today, Ålesund has one of the most cohesive Art Nouveau cityscapes in Europe.

Behind the facades are people and their stories: fishermen and merchants, war and reconstruction, economic change, and the development of modern Norway. The small group size leaves plenty of room for questions and discussion.
