Punta Carrion

This tour is offered on: Wednesday: Punta Carrión / South Plaza Island Friday: South Plaza Island / Punta Carrión Please note: The following descriptions and itinerary details reflect our typical. fter gathering all their essentials (camera, hat, sun cream, swim gear, etc.), guests head out from the meeting point at approximately 8:15 a.m. Around that time we head to the town of Puerto Ayora and hop aboard a transfer bus that will take us on a 45-minute drive across the beautiful highlands of Santa Cruz Island to the Itabaca Channel. Once there, we board the Yacht and set sail at approximately 9:45 a.m. Our first stop along the way is Punta Carrión. Around 10:10 a.m., we put on our snorkelling gear and jump in the water to begin our snorkelling activity that will last a little under an hour. Punta Carrión is a small bay that is ideal for viewing a variety of colourful fish, rays, and possibly even whitetip reef sharks!
South Plaza Island

Following the snorkelling activity at Punta Carrión, we board the Yacht once more and continue on our way to South Plaza Island. Once there, we take a small dinghy (panga) to the shore and perform a dry landing. One of our Galapagos National Park-certified guides leads us on a walking excursion where we explore the fascinating terrain covered in scarlet/coloured sesuvium succulents and verdant prickly pear cacti. Hybrid land/marine iguanas roam about the island and its black lava rock shores, mingling with Sally Lightfoot crabs, swallow-tailed gulls, red-billed tropicbirds, and two kinds of boobies: Nazca and blue-footed. South Plaza Island sits across from North Plaza Island, and the channel in between them is a beautiful and clear turquoise colour, where you can often spot a bachelor sea lion colony. Lunch is served aboard the Yacht. Keep in mind: Day Tours are subject to change due to weather conditions, logistical reasons, guests’ safety and/or Galapagos National Park Regulations.
