The tour starts from Piazza della Libertà, a historic meeting point in the heart of Spoleto, where the elegant Palazzo Ancaiani, the seventeenth-century residence of the homonymous family, is located. From the square you can admire the Roman Theatre, built in the first century BC.C., one of the most significant evidences of ancient Spoletium. From here the walk leads into the historic centre, following the ancient route of the Via Flaminia, the consular road that contributed to the development of the city in Roman times. Along the way you will encounter two extraordinary monuments of antiquity: the Arch of Monterone and the magnificent Arch of Drusus and Germanicus, one of the best preserved monumental accesses of the ancient Roman forum. Next to the arch stands the ancient Roman temple, transformed over the centuries into the Church of Sant'Ansano, testimony of the encounter between the classical world and the Christian tradition.
