Immerse yourself in the heart of Squillace's artisanal tradition with a workshop dedicated to ceramics and the ancient decorative technique of sgraffito, used in the area between the 15th and 17th centuries.
The experience takes place in the heart of Squillace, where you will be welcomed by the master ceramist. The workshop will begin with an introduction to the local ceramic tradition and an explanation of the engobe and sgraffito techniques, to help you understand their characteristics, tools and main stages of production.
You will then be given a ceramic plate that has already been slip-coated, which will become the basis of your creation. Under the guidance of the master craftswoman, you will create the design on the surface of the plate and then move on to sgraffito, personally engraving the decoration and trying out a technique linked to the craft history of Squillace.
No previous experience is necessary: you will be guided through the various stages of the process and will be able to experience the creative process of ceramics first-hand.
At the end of the workshop, you will sign your creation, making it a personal and unique memento of the experience. The plate will remain at the studio for subsequent kiln firing, and once the process is complete, it will be delivered according to the agreed-upon methods.
