What you can expect
Experience the rare opportunity to visit 2 traditional water villages on this enthralling guided tour leaving from Shanghai. Travel to the ancient settlement of Suzhou – commonly referred to as the Venice of the East – before journeying down the winding waterways of Zhouzhuang.
Enjoy a convenient pick-up, sit back, and relax as you journey northwest to the canal-filled village of Suzhou. The city is one of the oldest settlements in the Yangtze basin and is characterised by its snaking canals, stone bridges, waterside pagodas and garden architecture. Hop out of your vehicle and take a look around a city founded around 600 BC and now known as one of the top tourist attractions in China. Your tour takes you to several popular sights including the glorious Master of Nets Garden, the illuminating Silk Embroidery Research Institute and on a walk along the side of the Grand Canal.
Enjoy lunch here before continuing to Zhouzhuang, about an hour's drive away. A famous water township, the city is well-known for having remarkably well-preserved ancient residential houses set upon the water. Pull out your camera and take some pictures of the classic courtyards and carved-brick archways built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. A traditional Chinese boat is your unique vehicle for a meandering trip down the city’s waterways. Admire the old-style bridges, historic dwellings and religious architecture from the water before heading back to Shanghai.
