What you can expect

We begin our journey at the highest point of our trail, overlooking the vast blue expanse of the Aegean Sea to the west.

At the start of our hike, we visit the cave with the chapel of Saint Stefanos, a unique and enchanting destination due to its exceptional location, simplicity, and tranquil atmosphere. Dedicated to Saint Stephen the Protomartyr, it is considered one of the most secluded and contemplative places of worship on Syros island. It's an excellent spot for photography and reflection, especially early in the morning or in the afternoon. Access is only by hiking (or by boat in calm weather).

We will then head towards a hidden beach, one of the most beautiful and alternative spots on the island. There, we’ll have the chance to enjoy a light snack, relax, and swim in the sea.

Our final stop is the hilltop chapel of Agia Pakou, a picturesque site with historical significance and a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding area. The little church stands out for its simplicity, white Cycladic architecture, and unique location.

The area of Galissas has been inhabited since archaic times and appears to have flourished mainly during the Geometric and Classical periods (8th–5th century BC). Galissas is mentioned by the ancient geographer Strabo as one of the main cities of ancient Syros.

The journey ends in Galissas, a seaside village with beautiful views of the Aegean, where we can enjoy a swim in the cool, crystal-clear waters or savour local delicacies at a seaside taverna.

With a total duration of around 4 hours and a distance of 5 kilometres, this hike is the perfect choice for those wishing to discover the natural beauty and history of Syros on a uniquely scenic walking route.

We look forward to sharing this unforgettable experience with you!
