What you can expect

A Day in Qingjing: Meadows, Mountain Air, and Gentle Wanderings

Our one-day journey from Taichung to Qingjing began with a gradual ascent into Taiwan’s central highlands, where winding roads curved alongside green slopes and drifting clouds. As the city faded behind us, the air grew cooler, carrying the crisp scent of pine and mountain mist. By the time we reached Qingjing Farm, the landscape had transformed into a peaceful world of rolling meadows and open skies.

Stepping into Qingjing Farm felt like entering a quiet mountain village. The sight of sheep grazing freely across the wide grasslands immediately set a relaxed tone. We followed the gentle paths, watching woolly sheep nibble grass, occasionally lifting their heads as if posing for photos. The scenery—layered hills, distant ridges, and a sky that seemed unusually close—gave the entire place a postcard-like calmness. A highlight was the sheep-shearing show, where staff introduced the animals and shared stories about ranch life. Simple moments, like feeding the sheep or feeling the wind sweep across the grassy slopes, made the visit unexpectedly soothing.

After the pastoral charm of the farm, we headed to the Qingjing Skywalk, one of the region’s most iconic experiences. Elevated high above the hillside, the walkway offered sweeping views of the mountain ranges stretching endlessly towards the horizon. As we walked along the curved white bridge, the wind brushed against us, carrying the scent of cypress and wild grass. The world below felt far away. At times, clouds drifted so close that it felt like walking through a soft veil of mist. The combination of altitude, quietness, and the wide panoramic view created a sense of freedom that is hard to find elsewhere.

Our final stop, the Small Swiss Garden, added a gentle, romantic contrast to the day. Known as the “Little Switzerland of Taiwan,” the garden welcomed us with colourful flower beds, neat pathways, and a serene pond reflecting the surrounding greenery. Windmills, European-themed decorations, and delicate landscaping created a fairytale-like atmosphere. We strolled slowly through the garden, enjoying the stillness and the play of sunlight on water. Ducks gliding across the pond and soft music playing from nearby shops completed the peaceful mood.

As the day came to an end, we made our way back to Taichung with a deep sense of refreshment. The combination of meadow landscapes, high-altitude breezes, and quiet garden paths made the Qingjing trip feel both rejuvenating and memorable. It was a day shaped not by rush or noise, but by nature’s softness and the quiet beauty of the mountains.
