Often called the “Baby Taj”, the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah is a hidden gem in Agra — and a delicate precursor to the grandeur of the Taj Mahal. Built between 1622 and 1628 by Empress Nur Jahan, wife of Emperor Jahangir, it honours her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg, a respected Persian noble and treasurer of the empire. Crafted entirely from white marble and richly decorated with intricate pietra dura inlay (coloured stone work), the tomb is the first Mughal structure to use marble extensively instead of red sandstone, setting the stage for later masterpieces.

Nestled directly across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal, Mehtab Bagh (meaning “Moonlight Garden”) is one of Agra’s best-kept secrets. Originally designed by Emperor Babur and later revived by Shah Jahan, the garden was intended to be the perfect visual counterpart to the Taj — aligning symmetrically with the mausoleum's central axis. This peaceful riverside retreat offers unobstructed, crowd-free views of the Taj Mahal, especially stunning at sunset and moonrise, when the monument glows in warm hues and reflects in the Yamuna’s still waters. The garden's layout features pathways, fountains, and Mughal-style landscaping that once made it a royal relaxation spot.
