What you can expect

Sometimes regarded as the Chicago of Finland, Lahti has a long and proud industrial and sporting history. On this walking tour, we’ll explore the city’s park, its sports area and its bay.

This tour starts next to Kylän Portti, the ”Gate to the Village” monument. From there, you’ll stroll along Church Park to Ristinkirkko Church, or the Church of the Cross as it’s also known. On your way to Fellman Park, you’ll pass the rose-coloured Lahti Manor, now the Lahti Historical Museum, and hear about its owner August Fellman. Lars shares the city’s sporting history with you as you walk past sporting arenas including Isku Areena, Lahti Stadium, and the Lahti Sports Centre. You’ll find out how the city became known as a skiing metropolis, and hear a couple of tales about the FC Lahti football club. As you make your way to the harbour, you'll hear about the city’s connection to Russia. The tour ends in front of the Sibelius Hall, an event and concert centre.

On this tour, you’ll have a chance to:

• Find out how the old Parish church’s three bells were modernised
• Stroll through Fellman Park, and see the Red Captive Monument
• Learn about Nordic cross-country skier Siiri Rantanen
• View the great sports arenas, where the first ever World Championships for cross-country skiing was held
• Cross over Love Bridge and view Vesijärvi, the lovely city lake
• Take in the spectacular Musical Fountain in the Pikku-Vesijärvi Park
• Hear about city’s first railway and the canal
• Consider partaking in the Lahti Park Run

Join Lars on this easy-going 75-minute stroll to see the best Lahti has to offer.
