Red Beach is located in the southeastern part of the island near the archaeological site of Akrotiri, 14 km from Fira, and is easily accessible by car or bus. At the end of the road is a car park next to the picturesque chapel of Agios Nikolas (St. Nicholas). The short hike to the beach over the rocks from the car park is tricky. Perissa is a gorgeous beach covered in black volcanic sand, great for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkelling. It is located on the southeast coast of Santorini and is extended at the base of the massive Mesa Vouno promontory, suddenly emerging into the sea. Perissa is one of the island's most cosmopolitan beaches, stretching for miles. It is joined by Perivolos beach, a more than 7 kilometres beach. The water is obvious, easy to lean in, and beautiful. The coarse black sand is walking-friendly, and it shines like glitter. However, summer can be sweltering. Stop at Perissa or Perivolos for swimming or have an optional lunchtime at a traditional tavern.
