What you can expect

Embark on a 75-minute stargazing adventure in Twizel, located in the heart of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Discover one of the clearest and darkest skies in the world and gaze up in awe and wonder as you are guided by a qualified astronomer and seasoned astrophotographer.

Relax in comfortable outdoor seating beneath the stars and gaze deep into space whilst enjoying a laser-guided tour of celestial objects visible that night. Your guide will introduce you to famous planets, stars and constellations whilst explaining their scientific significance. The second part of the tour focuses on telescope observations of planets, nebulae, star clusters and galaxies, tailored to the current visibility at that time of year. Your guide will give you detailed explanations of what you are seeing.
The tour will finish with a personal astrophoto of you under the stars.

Learn about the cultural, scientific, and environmental significance of the night sky, aligning with the preservation values of the Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve.
