Overview

  • Pristina is one of Europe's youngest capitals in every sense — its country declared independence in 2008, and the city is still visibly, audibly being built. On this self-guided walking tour, you'll follow Kosovo's storey from Ottoman bazaars to NATO airstrikes and a hard-won declaration of independence.

    Starting at the Cathedral of Saint Mother Teresa, you'll pass the infamous National Library, an unfinished Serbian Orthodox church, and the brand-new Children of War Museum. The route continues through Ottoman Pristina, past a 600-year-old mosque and a clock tower whose bell was stolen from Moldova.

    The tour ends at the Newborn Monument, repainted every Independence Day — a public canvas where Kosovo rewrites its own storey.
