Established in 1969 and located in the Northwest part of the Island, it covers an area of roughly one-fifth of Bonaire, and it was the location of Slagbaai - the largest and most productive plantations during the colonial period. Today the park is home to 2 internationally recognised and protected wetlands known as Ramsar sites and is a safe habitat for Bonaire’s native birds and reptiles. Its pristine beaches are an important nesting ground for both the sea turtles and birds that visit the waters of our unspoiled Island.
