Activity itinerary

Livadia
  • 1h
Livadeia is one of the oldest towns in Central Greece, with a history that stretches back to antiquity. It was an important city in ancient times, closely connected to the region of Boeotia, and played a significant role in Greek mythology and early religious life. Throughout the centuries, Livadeia remained a strategic and cultural centre due to its location between major ancient cities. In modern Greek history, Livadeia played an active role in the Greek War of Independence and became an important town in the newly formed Greek state. Today, its long and layered past is reflected in its architecture, traditions, and strong local identity.
Kryas Livadeia Springs
  • 1h
The Springs of Krya are one of the most beautiful and lively parts of Livadeia, where nature and everyday local life come together. A clear river flows through the heart of the town, creating a refreshing landscape filled with greenery, stone bridges, and traditional watermills that reflect the area’s long-standing heritage. Visitors can stroll through the picturesque alleys, explore small traditional shops, and experience the authentic atmosphere of the city. Livadeia is also well known for its local cuisine, especially its famous souvlaki, which is considered a must-try speciality of the area. The area offers the perfect setting to relax and enjoy a coffee under the shade of tall plane trees, accompanied by the soothing sounds of flowing water. This peaceful environment makes Krya an ideal place to slow down, connect with nature, and experience the true charm of provincial Greece.
Medieval Castle Livadia (Pass by)
Overlooking the town of Livadeia, the historic castle stands proudly on the hillside, offering a striking view that can be admired from the area of Krya. Built in medieval times, the castle played an important defensive role due to its strategic position above the city. Although the castle remains an impressive landmark and an important part of Livadeia’s history, access to the site is limited and visiting it is not easy. Nevertheless, its presence adds a strong sense of character to the town, reminding visitors of its rich and layered past as they explore the surrounding area.

It was founded in the early 10th century AD by the hermit, Venerable Luke of Steiris, whose relics are kept in the monastery to this day.
