The walking tour offers a nuanced view of the history of women in the GDR in about 2.5 hours. Based on current research and contemporary sources, we examine the state's women's policy in terms of aspiration and reality using locations and buildings in Potsdam.
The guided tour begins at the foot of the Brauhausberg. There, the political structure of the GDR and the role of women in the SED will be explained with reference to the former SED district headquarters. On the way through the city centre, topics such as equality and gainful employment, the triple burden of working women, and women's rights are discussed.
The repressive system of the GDR is also addressed using former buildings of the Ministry of State Security as examples. The focus is on the gender-specific structures within the MfS and their effects on female prisoners. The walking tour ends at Luisenplatz, a symbol of the Peaceful Revolution, where we conclude by talking about the women's movement.

The tour includes a total of approximately 3 miles of walking. Seating is available at various stops for short breaks. The tour is also suitable for seniors and guests with limited mobility (e.g., no stairs). Of course, we adapt the walking pace to the needs of the group.
