    1. Historical Significance & Status
      Largest & Best-Preserved Ancient City Wall in China: Constructed from 1370 to 1378 (Ming Dynasty) on the foundations of the Sui-Tang imperial city, it boasts a history of over 600 years.
      World-Famous Military Defence System: A key national cultural relic and a 5A-level tourist attraction, representing the pinnacle of ancient Chinese fortification engineering.
    2. Grand Scale & Structure
      Shape & Dimensions: Forms a closed rectangular loop with a total circumference of 13.74 km.
      Height: 12 metres
      Top Width: 12–14 metres
      Base Width: 15–18 metres
      Structural Stability: The wall is thicker than it is high, creating an extremely stable trapezoidal cross-section.
      Materials: Built with rammed earth core and an outer layer of blue bricks. The ancient mortar used a unique mixture of lime, glutinous rice paste, and tung oil, acting as an ancient form of super-strong concrete.
    3. Complete Defence System
      Gates: Four main gates with profound names (Changdong, Yongning, Anding, Anyuan) forming the phrase “Chang'an Yong Ding” (Eternal Peace). Each gate is a complex fortress with Wengcheng (enclosure), Zhanlou (archery tower), and Zhenglou (main tower).
      Ramparts (Watch Towers): 98 outward-protruding platforms spaced for crossfire, each topped with a sentry tower.
      Corner Towers: Four towers at the corners (three square, one round) for monitoring all approaches.
      Moat: A wide, deep moat surrounds the wall as the first defensive line.
      Drainage: A clever 5° inward slope on the wall top and 167 stone gutters efficiently channel rainwater away.
    4. Cultural & Architectural Value
      Symmetrical Layout: Follows the traditional “square and orderly” urban planning principles.
      Symbolism: The number 99 layers of bricks and auspicious gate names reflect ancient ritual and philosophical ideas.
      Modern Function: Today, it is a popular recreational space for cycling, walking, and cultural events, seamlessly integrating history with modern city life.
