This immersive tour gently invites you into the everyday life, traditions, and accumulated wisdom of a small rural community in Yamagata.
By following the rhythms of nature, local food culture, and regional history, you will experience how generations of people have lived in harmony with the land—and how their storey continues to unfold into the future.
① Nature and the Wisdom of Daily Life
The journey begins along the Nogawa River, whose snowmelt has long sustained agriculture and village life.
Here, you will discover how local people have lived alongside nature, making thoughtful use of water and respecting the environment that surrounds them.
Within this quiet landscape lies a body of knowledge, passed down silently through generations.
② Tradition and Local Food Culture
For lunch, we visit SHISHIYADO IBUSHI-TEI, a place deeply connected to the region’s lion-dance tradition, and enjoy carefully prepared homemade local dishes.
Through flavours, stories, and rituals rooted in the land, you will encounter a culture that has been lovingly preserved by the community over time.
③ Learning and Cultural Continuity
The tour concludes with a peaceful tea time at a place that embodies the spirit of inheritance and renewal.
Whether it is a space connected to a long-established local industry, or a thoughtfully restored building once central to daily life, the setting itself quietly tells a storey.
In this moment, past and present overlap, and you can feel how culture is carried forward into the future.
All travel during the tour is by E-BIKE.
In an age defined by speed and convenience, moving gently through the landscape by bicycle allows you to experience views and sensations that can only be felt at a slower pace.
Along the way, you will sense how local culture continues to live, evolve, and be passed on—and how, simply by being here, you become part of that ongoing storey.
A Journey That Connects Past, Present, and Future
From “wisdom shaped by nature,” to “traditions expressed through food and festivals,”
and finally to places that embody renewal and cultural inheritance,
this tour weaves together a single storey of a community living in harmony with nature and passing its heritage on to the next generation.
・Transport during the tour is by E-BIKE. Participation is limited to those who have no physical restrictions on exercise and can ride a bicycle safely. Before departure, the guide will provide a safety briefing and conduct a simple riding check to ensure all participants are comfortable on the bike.
・The total cycling distance is approximately 30 km. The route consists mainly of flat roads, making it suitable even for couples in their 60s to join comfortably.
We hope you leave with the feeling that the culture of this place is alive and evolving,
and that your visit has become a new chapter in its continuing storey.
