Start your day with a comfortable ride from Yerevan in a Mercedes Viano. Make three scenic stops along the way: a photo stop with a panoramic view of Mount Ararat, a visit to Areni Winery for an optional wine tasting, and a stop at Zanger Pass (2350 m).
Arrive at Devil’s Bridge, a unique karst formation with mineral springs and caves, and the starting point of your hike. Follow a 2 km trail along the scenic Vorotan River, passing wild almond, fig trees, and Caucasian oak. Discover the hidden Tatev Hermitage, preserved almost exactly as it appeared centuries ago.
Explore the complex, which includes the Church of the Holy Mother of God, a narthex, a scriptorium, a small academy, cellars and refectory, a bakery, and numerous monks’ cells carved into the rock.
Return to the car and drive up the dramatic mountain road to the Tatev Monastery, founded by St. Eustathius, one of the 70 disciples of Christ. Make a short stop at the medieval watchtower and observation platform.
Optionally, ride the Guinness World Record–winning Wings of Tatev, the world’s longest direct reversible cable car (ticket ~€20, purchased separately).
