Standing at 350 metres tall and part of the Stratosphere Casino, the Stratosphere Tower dominates the Las Vegas skyline. Head up to the two observation decks that offer unbeatable views of the Las Vegas Strip and the Las Vegas valley.
Opened in 1996, the Stratosphere Casino and Hotel sits at the northern end of the Strip on Las Vegas Boulevard. The Top of the World revolving restaurant gives diners the chance to enjoy a tasty meal nearly 250 metres above the ground, while the exhilarating rides at the top of the tower will appeal to thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies.
Laying claim to the title of the highest thrill ride in the world, the Big Shot hurls riders over 300 metres into the air at speeds of up to 72 kilometres an hour, while the terrifying X-Scream roller coaster leaves you hanging in mid-air over the edge of the casino.
The Insanity coaster will make your stomach churn, as you spin and flip on the edge of a giant mechanical arm which leaves you dangling over the tower’s edge. True thrill-seekers need look no further than the famous SkyJump Las Vegas, the Stratosphere’s signature ride. The SkyJump sees participants jump off the top of the tower in a bungee, and, at 260 metres, is actually the world’s highest controlled free fall.
If white-knuckle rides aren’t your thing, then head to the indoor and outdoor observation decks that give stunning views of the Nevada desert and the glittering lights of Las Vegas. For a cocktail with a difference, try the Jet Fuel at the Air Bar on the 108th floor – a mind-spinning concoction of rum, amaretto, peach schnapps, melon liqueur and orange juice. The 103rd floor is home to the famous Chapel in the Clouds, where you can tie the knot or renew your wedding vows in true Vegas style.
If your stomach can handle it after all those rides, then head to the Tower Pizzeria, the Sandwich Carvery 108 or the Level 107 Lounge for delicious desserts.
Located at the northern end of the Strip, you can reach Stratosphere by monorail, public bus and mini-bus shuttle. Ask your hotel for information about deals on public transport. Open daily, the tower and rides stay open into the night.
