“Sydney”
The only issue is that of no wi-fi Internet in rooms. The hotel needs to provide a full Internet capability, not have its customers who us modern iPads type interfaces, having o use theinternet (at cost), in the reception area only.
“Ideal weekend away.”
Very nice boutique hotel. Quiet room with attentive staff. Great spa and nice water view.
“Great place”
Great location. Close enought to walk to the action, but far enough away that it is in a very quiet area. Super friendly staff. I would definitely stay there again.
“Wedding time”
Loved the individual character of the rooms as we had friends staying also. Enjoyed the pool ad sauna and the extras such as a shaver etc after the swim and sauna - really great. Enjoyed te bar for a drink and breakfast with the mob after the wedding.
“very impressive”
Great service from when we pulled up in front of the hotel until we left in the pouring rain.
“Sydney's best hotel”
Cannot fault this hotel in any way. Located in a quiet area of a very busy city, yet within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. The room was comfortable, spacious and very, very clean. The service and friendliness of the staff was second to none. Everyone addressed us by our names. The underground pool and spa were excellent. The bar / library was well stocked with books about the history of Australia and the food was also excellent. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!
“Fabulous - Posh but comefortable even when you're scruffy”
Fabulous old building with loads of character. Kind of typical old school posh, wood panelled and floral fabrics, the bar and breakfast room are more like a drawing room in a country manor. We felt really scruffy walking in after spending some time up north; sunburnt, hung over and tired wearing T-shirt jeans and sandles. But the staff were amazing - professional, friendly and down to earth. They upgraded us on check-in to a suite which was a nice surprise but even if we only had the room and the bathroom, my review would be glowing - L'octaine bathroom products were amazing! Possibly the best cocktail we ever had in the Bar. There are no glorious views but we had that at one of the modern highrise view hotels on another stay in Sydney and it wasn't a patch on this place for charm and person service.
“Affordable Luxury”
The Observatory is just a short walk from the Circular Quay, so the location is quite good. The hotel has a great "old world" quality about it. HIgh quality funiture and bedding. Some rooms with a good view of the harbour form a private deck. With a good rate through the internet, it has to be the best value in "The Rocks" area of Sydney.
“The best stay we've had in Sydney”
Going back to the Observatory after a day's activities in the city, was like going home. They absolutely made us feel like royalty. The breakfast was wonderful, the staff was fantastic. We didn't have an opportunity to have dinner in the restaurant, but judging from the breakfast, it had to be great, as well. The room was large, for Sydney standards, and furnished very nicely. The fantastic price truly was the icing on the cake.
“Outstanding hotel in a great location”
I booked this hotel as a special treat for the beginning of our stay in Australia. Although the water view of Darling Harbor is good, but not spectacular (there is an empty parking lot between the hotel and the Harbor) we liked everything else about the hotel so much that we ended up splurging and returning to the hotel, instead of to a cheaper place, for the 3 days back in Sydney at the end of our trip. Rooms are very comfortable, and concierge is extremely helpful. We did not eat in the hotel, so I cannot comment on the restaurants.
