Bathrooms were shared as it provided a traditional Japanese experience but as someone who would generally avoid a shared bathroom this was more part of the experience than a drawback. "Stayed at this Ryokan May of 2019. Great location if you want to explore the apps a bit. You are less than 15 min from shinhotaka ropeway which I highly recommend. Also close to kamikoche which is also supposed to be gorgeous. This was my first time in a Ryokan so I don’t have much to compare to. The place is old but I believe most ryokan are. It was very very clean and the service was fantastic. Our favorite part was the dinners! About 15 courses and includes hida beef! Great deal for that much...

"This is a traditional Japanese Onsen Ryokan with the option of Rotemburo for a fully authentic Onsen experience. The room sport traditional Japanese tatami and shoji coupled with comfortable futon beds that will lull you into some of the sweetest slumbers. "This is a wonderful place to spend a few days. The ryokan is very authentically Japanese. The staff was helpful wherever we needed them. The food Is good, though our best meals were in restaurants in Takayama. Most of all, the hot springs are AWESOME. The water is so thick with minerals, so rich. We didn’t want to leave."
