Yamanoryosha Nakaodaira
3.0 star property
9.8 out of 10, Exceptional, (7)
"My partner and I wanted to experience a night in the middle of the mountains during winter preferably with meals and outdoor onsen included at a reasonable price. My partner had never seen snow before, and although we spent the night prior in Takayama where it was snowing - travelling 2.5hrs (usually 1.5hrs but we were commuting in heavy snow!) to Nakaodaira we both agree was definitely worth it if you are wanting to see the countryside and have a true authentic Japanese experience. I would...

Ryokan Seiryu
3.0 star property
8.8 out of 10, Excellent, (98)
"This was our first experience staying at a Ryoken and using an onsen. We loved the experience. The room was quite small and basic but it was exceptionally clean and met all of our needs. The level of service was top notch. I can safely say that I have never experienced that high level of service in my life. We enjoyed both the dinner and breakfast meals they offered. We felt they were good value and an interesting tasty cultural experience. Takayama itself was a beautiful quiet little town that...

3.5 star property

"We had a wonderful time at this ryokan. We chose this inn specifically for its remote location and traditional atmosphere and were not disappointed. The hotel, outdoor onsen, and woodsy surroundings were all excellent. The building is old and reminded me of the railroad lodges of the western United States: creaky old doors and floors, metal keys, and rotary dial phones. Other than the hotel, there are no restaurants nearby (that I know of) and dinner is an elaborate kaiseki ryori that requires...

"I loved everything! It was so nice and cozy and the staff were very friendly. The onsens were amazing! Very convenient location and walkable everywhere. Definitely recommend! Only thing is that the staff doesn’t speak english too well so they told me the free ramen was at 1030 so I missed it the first night. It says it’s until 10:30pm but they only open for 30 minutes (opens at 9pm and last call is at 930pm) so I don’t think that part is super clear. Besides that everything was amazing! "
