Have you heard of the remote village of #Tanuf, #Oman 🇴🇲? I’d be very surprised if you had - it was bombed to #ruins by the British Royal Air Force during the Jebel Akhdar War in the late 1950s. The remains still stand, as a rather #spooky monument to that little-known conflict. #LifeAtExpedia
This is the #view from the top of the tower of #Nizwa Fort, #Oman 🇴🇲. I once interviewed an archaeologist for an article I was working on about the country’s hundreds of towers, castles and forts and he explained about the different design philosophies you can see. This #fort, he said, is in a dreadful defensive position. As a fortification, it is next to worthless. As a show of dominance over the surrounding #town, it’s outstanding. This view from the ramparts really demonstrates that. #LifeAtExpedia
