"This hotel is located right next to a staircase going down to a small beach and the entrance to the boardwalk for Ponte Piedade . The rooftop restaurant is amazing also ! The staff was polite and friendly . We would stay here again !"

"The staff were very helpful, although on our arrival (approximately 1230am) there wasn’t a porter to assist us with our luggage to the 3rd floor with 2 long hallways. We had asked for a quiet room, but didn’t expect a room facing rooftops & street lighting for several miles, and a view of the main road into the town, and a generator that cut in/out every 3 minutes from breakfast to dinner each day. Breakfast was very comprehensive, although the evening meal for €110 with wine was average at best, so we continued to you use the À la carte restaurant, that although slightly more expensive, was excellent! Towels on beds was an irritating practice, and remained unchecked. All in all the beach views were spectacular, although I wouldn’t recommend for those unprepared to walk a mile or so down approximately 150-200 timber steps (my wife and I are in our late 70s but are not adverse to exercise) all in all a good holiday, but not a resort I would rush back too! I would be happy to provide a comprehensive ( in my opinion inexpensive) improvement plan, 10 out of 10 for staff attitudes 👍"

"I would say this is a 4 star hotel at best. We definitely expected more from this hotel. The issues in isolation aren’t too bad, but combined, it has left us disappointed: * brought to our room 20 minutes after check in because it wasn’t ready. * The shower was clogged. They did address this immediately when we requested maintenance * One of the outlets beside the bed did not work. They addressed this immediately upon us bringing it up. * no fresh water available in our room when we arrived. * Pool deck is not in order - several slats should be replaced & majority of the loungers are sunken in. * Construction at the hotel that we did not know about upon booking. This didn’t impact us but it is worth noting. * Expedia listing is slightly deceiving as it mentions white sand beach. you can’t access this beach from the hotel. * Silly complaint but we are here on our honeymoon and saw other reviews were welcomed with a gift - we did not get this. Again, not huge deals in isolation but combined, this does not define a 5 star hotel. What’s good: * the location - 4.5/5, stunning views. * The breakfast is included - 5/5 - tons of options and open at reasonable times. * one gentleman at the pool - excellent customer service. Upon checkout we expressed our concerns and the response was “how would you like to pay” lol"

"Great, convenient location to historic town, pier, restaurants and bars, nice, clean room, helpful staff and most of all great rooftop bar and breakfast with small pool. The breakfast choices and quality are outstanding."

"The Bel Mar was great. The rooms were very spacious. Not only was it a nice hotel it was also a great value. There was a washing machine in the unit too which the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The staff was helpful. Multiple pools, great view, easy walk to the beach, convenient on site parking. We were a couple in our 50’s, there were families too. The drive to town was easy. A great place to stay and relax but also easy access to town if you have a car or an easy uber. Highly recommend."

"Love this hotel. So close to the airport, close to car hire, swimming pool on site,close to supermarket with café, altogether perfect place to stay. Beds comfy, lovely shower, what more can I say!"
