What a find! Such a lovely intimate hotel , close to the mountains in gorgeous scenery. Staff were so friendly, we enjoyed a relaxing stay using the hot tub and chilling in our room. Delicious breakfast too!

Amazing and memorable family holiday at Vilafoia. From the swift response to our email queries before we had even left home, we were made to feel welcome and this was our experience throughout our stay from all the staff. The property is exactly as it looks in the pictures online - very beautiful, clean and well maintained throughout. Our rooms were spacious, with large balconies with beautiful views of the mountains with a glimpse of the sea in the distance. We enjoyed the pool and gardens which are lovely with plenty of comfortable seating dotted all around to enjoy the views and sunshine. Breakfast was delicious, varied and plentiful with a buffet of cereals, fresh fruit, cold meats, cheeses, delicious breads, and eggs made to order. We really appreciated the honesty bar - it was lovely to come back after a day out and sit in the gardens with a drink and star gaze. Prices of snacks and drinks was incredibly reasonable e.g 13 euros for a bottle of sparkling wine. Booking system for the wonderful hot tub is a great idea - we really enjoyed the experience of having it all to ourselves. Thank you so much to the Vilafoia team for making our holiday so special.

Fantastic property with amazing views. Great restaurants nearby. The staff could not have been any better. There fantastic hiking trails nearby that are really well marked that the staff recommended. Truly a wonderful place to spend some time.

A very comfortable and quiet place
I stayed for 2 nights in Vilafoia and wished I had stayed longer. It is a perfect place to get away from it all and to just chill out. The welcome I received was outstanding-it was clear Margarita took her job very seriously and genuinely cared that guests feel at home there. She emailed directions in advance which were easy to follow and got me there with no trouble whatsoever. Each room has a large balcony which gets the sun in the morning and is a great place to watch the sky (and the shooting stars) at night. The entire property is spotless; rooms are cleaned every day. Breakfast is of a very high standard, fresh and delivered with a smile on the patio overlooking the immaculately kept gardens. I appreciated the coffee (and tea) available in the afternoon and the use of the fridge. It’s a shame they don’t have an on-site restaurant but there are three restaurants within walking distance-which is no harm as the portions in both restaurants I visited were huge!! I would recommend VilaFoia wholeheartedly and hope to return some day in the future. It really is worth the effort of getting there. Até à próxima! Abraços, Brian

A little piece of heaven
What a beautiful location for a few days away. Peaceful, stunning scenery, a home away from home. You definitely need a car to get about but would recommend having a car to explore the Algarve anyway.

Best stay in Monchique area hands down
Wonderful stay in peaceful Monchique. Loved the location and service with fabulous views on hills above Monchique. The studio was quiet and private from the rest of the rooms and a perfect area to relax and enjoy the local hiking in the hills. Excellent service and friendly multilingual staff. Highly recommend.

Boutique like hotel. Very friendly staff, good bed and great breakfast. Floor heating makes the room a little top warm, but we opende the door to the terrace and it was fine, although not very sustainable. Turning of heating took 24 hours

Once you got there, wonderful experience with beautiful property, great views, welcoming hotel staff and terrific breakfast. Getting there difficult, up steep and winding dirt road, would not attempt access after dark.

Lovely rooms and relaxing area
Lovely stay for our family of four including two teenagers. We had a family room, very spacious and of course the main thing about this location is the views, great view from the balcony. The area is very quiet, you do need a car to get anywhere. Nice pool for a cool down in the summer too. Breakfast is a good buffet with eggs cooked to order, you will not starve! Overall an ideal stay if you are looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing.

Quiet Place In the Hills
Vilafoia is a small hotel in the hills near Monchique. Our room had an amazing view all the way out to the ocean, was very clean, very comfortable and had nice amenities. The shower was a little small (like all European showers). The grounds were very well maintained and it's easy to go for a nice walk on the quiet roads surrounded by cork trees.

Warm welcome. Rooms functional and clean. Parking limited to Road outside if you can get a space. Good location for station amd regular trains to Lisbon. Breakfast slightly disappointing with cheap juice and no eggs. Rooms with shared bathrooms can be noisy with other guests using the bathroom through the night and you are disturbed by footsteps on the wooden floorboards. . All in all a decent bed and breakfast but certainly not a boutique hotel.

A relaxing place to stay
We visited in early March 2016 when there was only one other couple staying. The accommodation was clean and in very good condition. Our room was large, had plenty of lights (so it was possible to read with ease everywhere in the room), plenty of power sockets for charging computers/phones, etc (no need for a card key to turn on lights/power so they stayed on if you left the room), and a strong wifi signal everywhere. The double beds have two single duvets (as is common in Germany). Free coffee, tea, etc were available in the breakfast area and there was free fruit and water in the room. Each room had a separate spacious balcony with good views of the coast in the distance. However it is in a remote location and accessed on a series of winding narrow roads climbing uphill. The hotel sent good instructions on how to find it and they were easy to use in daylight as there are plenty of signs. However, we did get lost later in the evening when going down to Monchique in the dark for a meal as the roads are unlit and the signs are not quite as easy to follow as they are for visitors coming from several directions (and, without a satnav, we might have had difficulty finding our way back to the correct route). Vilafoia is owned by a German Children's charity.

Wir waren im Februar 2024 für zwei Nächte in der Vilafoia und es hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Die Unterkunft liegt etwas außerhalb des Stadtzentrums und für die meisten Unternehmungen benötigt man ein Auto. Die Außenanlage ist sehr schön hergerichtet mit einem Pool und vielen Liegemöglichkeiten. Der Ausblick ist fantastisch. Das Personal war super freundlich und hilfsbereit und es gab über einen Link sehr viele hilfreiche Informationen (zB zu Restaurants). Das stach deutlich heraus. Das frühstücksbuffett ist frisch und enthält alles, was man benötigt. Einziger Minuspunkt ist, dass die Zimmer sehr hellhörig sind. Als wir dort waren, war es sehr leer, aber man hat die Gäste im Nebenzimmer deutlich gehört, wenn sie sich unterhalten haben. Insgesamt aber wirklich empfehlenswert.

L’accès à l’hôtel grâce aux instructions et à la signalétique a été grandement facilitée. Nous avons été chaleureusement accueillis, l’ensemble des indications nous a été fournie. Nous avons la chance de bénéficier d’un surclassement. La vue d’ensemble de la vallée est très agréable. Le petit déjeuner est personnalisé. La baignoire est d’une taille parfaite pour s’allonger.

Trois nuits dans le studio au Rez de chaussée d'une maison qui se trouve à 100m au dessus de l'hôtel. Très agréable, avec une superbe terrasse donnant une vue panoramique, hôtel situé en pleine nature au milieu de chênes liège, à 7 min en voiture de Montchique. Nous avons aimé, à revoir néanmoins le service: pas de ménage fait tous les jours, pourtant promis sur l'annonce, et donc pas de changement de serviettes même si elles sont sales. C'est inacceptable pour un hôtel à ce niveau de prix.

Schönes Hotel ....die Anfahrt über die Bergstraßen ist etwas schwierig aber durchaus machbar. Das Hotel hat uns eine extra Anfahrtbeschreibung geschickt da google Maps eine schwierigere Route vorschlägt. Wir waren am wochenende dort es war sehr ruhig. Es gab auch einen schönen Pool und auch eine Whirlpool. Frühstück war auch sehr gut. Am Sonntag wurde wurde gegrillt es gab Hamburger...sehr lecker und wir mussten nucht noch mal losfahren um etwas zu essen. Zimmer waren sauber geräumig und das Personal sehr nett.

Perfect quiet getaway!
The hotel has been very clear with communication from the start. The check in was easy and convenient. (Only downside I encountered - what you will encounter in most small Southern Europe hotels - is that they make a copy of your passport which legally is not allowed by most countries. I’d recommend bringing your own copy already without your photo and social security number to avoid this). Receptionist understood why I had an issue with this and we sorted it quickly. The room had a nice balcony and relax chairs - great working AC too! It’s all a bit older and the bed was a bit hard for my taste but it totally works and was super clean. The hotel has a wonderful area around the pool where we spent a good amount of time. Even after we had checked out the management let us enjoy the rest of the afternoon there as well. The breakfast was very extensive and all very fresh. As there is COVID you are able to fill in a form on check in with what you’d like for breakfast and they did not disappoint at all! The view during breakfast is also magnificent. There is also a fridge where you are allowed to put some drinks in to enjoy for example around the pool. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - felt very welcome - and would highly recommend staying here if you like to get some peace and quiet. It has been great! Special shout out to Stephanie who served us breakfast! Thanks!
