Quality Inn & Suites Vandalia near I-70 and Hwy 51
8/10 Good
"If the man who checked me in had not acted like I was a criminal, it would have been a better overall experience. I checked in late at night and called ahead to say that. However, when I arrived, after an 8 hr drive, he commented on how tired I looked. When he asked why I was traveling, I thought he was being cordial. I told him I had brought a family member home, after a visit. He asked if she was with me. I said no. He asked me three times over the course of the conversation if I was the only person who would be in the room.
I was wearing a sweatshirt that said Chicago on it. He asked if I were from Chicago. I said, "No. I got it in the airport there." Then he wanted to know where I was from. I said, "I drove here from" the city I live in.
He said, "You are tired and want to get checked in quickly." He then continued to question me.
Being a cat owner, I had a couple of stray hairs on my shirt. This led him to ask if I had a dog. I said no, a cat. He said, "Oh, will the cat be in the room?" I was getting really annoyed by this time and said, "No. I will be the only one in the room!"
He finally got my key made but asked again, "How many keys do you need?"
I could barely contain my frustration and anger and said, "One."
He then checked my DL for ID, questioned when I had gotten it, looked at it as if I wasn't the person pictured and then commented that it looked like it was awhile ago.
Even TSA hasn't managed to insult and annoy me this much.
The room was clean. That's it"
"The room was very clean and well taken care of the staff was friendly and got my reserved room very quickly never enjoyed breakfast got up to late like the idea of leaving the key in the room saves going back to the desk when there is no reason everything I did was all ready paid for so I had no need to go to the desk but wood have liked to had more coffee in the room for wake-up one cup is just not enough and some people don’t like to go down to the lobby in the morning might think about putting more coffee in rooms. For morning wake up my and my lady friend didn’t have enough coffee other than that very nice stay very enjoyable"
"Complimentary breakfast was better than previous visit although inconsistent in quality. I give them credit for the effort to improve and hope the upward trend continues."
"Average but a cheap place when you need it quick, basic and maybe looking for a little seedy. Direct access from outside is always a +. Staff aren't intrusive."
