Everything was great - except the lack of hot wate

I stayed here for 8 nights. I had a comfortable stay. Some of the staff were very friendly and up for a chat but most others were indifferent, which is fair enough. Most of the foreign guests kept to themselves. Many of the local guests, however, were friendly and I enjoyed having conversations with them. My 8-bed dorm room (room 103) was quiet and had windows. The bathroom consists of two rooms - a shower closet and and toilet plus sink room - and both were clean. A towel was included. Laundry can be done on-site for 500 tenge. The kitchen was pretty well maintained for such a high-traffic and high-use area. The only major problem: there was really no hot water. I got used to taking quick cold showers in the morning, and it was an acceptable trade-off since everything else was great. Some tips: go to the Small Supermarket just past the mall (not the over priced supermarket inside Dostyk Plaza) for your groceries; taxi from the airport should cost between 1500 to 1700 on Yandex Taxi (depending on the time of day and demand). Stay here and enjoy Almaty! I hope to visit again some day. Best wishes!

As we walked in the hostel the receptionist was really helpful and she also speaks english. The room was recently cleaned. Everything was exactly like the pictures or even better than that. The receptionist was so nice that made me feel welcome and like home.

Everything was great except that the receptionist tried to fool me. I had emailed her and told when I would be arriving in the airport and the hostel would fix a taxi to the hostel for 13 usd, which is already a good price for them. I paid the driver when leaving the car. The receptionist wanted me to pay her and not the driver and she said the price was now higher “since she booked through another company edger we emailed”. I told her no and she said okay... I also didn’t like that my room didn’t have a window. Everything else was really good!
