Location was useful, as I needed a place to stay in Alnmouth and the hotel had availability.

Excellent facilities, excellent food, particularly the Indian restaurant. Friendly and obliging staff. Superb beer garden and good well kept ales. Stairs and landing carpet could do with a makeover, other than that excellent.

Plus points: Excellent location. Quirkiness. Excellent cooked breakfast. In the process of being refurbished - comfortable at the moment, but needs redecorating.

The staff of just two were helpful and kind. The establishment is v tired and run down; it requires total refurbishment which would, hopefully, eliminate the pervasive musty smell.

Whilst the only two staff were nice enough, there was hardly ever anybody there. The bedding was clean. I didn’t eat there at all due to awful reviews which I didn’t see till after I’d booked for four nights. On my second night water came down from the ceiling into my room had to put the bin underneath to catch the water. This came as no surprise to them. When I mentioned it I was handed the phone to speak with the manager who was very brief and unapologetic. I felt sorry for the lad who appeared to be by himself for most of the time. It was tricky to have a conversation as he was unable to understand. He was nice though. I note the hotel has had some awful reviews and weirdly a couple of excellent ones that in no way reflect the state of the place! Would advise reading reviews first before booking unlike me. Had I been able to afford to stay somewhere else I would have done. I gather people have previously requested refunds to no avail. Won’t be going back.

First day found the hotel looking very tired in need of a full upgrade. Tools and old furniture hanging about. Not child friendly. Not very clean. Bedrooms not very clean.Bed ok. One of the towels had to be changed because it had dirty marks on it. Staff polite. First days full breakfast was very nice. But second day bacon frazzled and sausages burnt. Last day no egg? Sausage tasted off left most of it. Last night loads of shouting and banging of doors at 2am! Please dont stay here. Needs a lot of work doing to it.

The stay was just for overnight on way to Edinburgh. The hotel itself ok but the town was cute walkable and right on the North Sea. Found a great pub and then a restaurant for an amazing dinner. The hotel did live up to the haunted tales as we did experience something paranormal but not scary.

The hotel was being renovated. Our room was in the process of updating and was not ready to be let out. It had clean bed linen, but needed a thorough clean not just top dusting. It was understaffed with the few staff trying to do everything and failing. I could list all the faults which are the same as previous reviews. The main problem was that all the electric appliances were run from a multiplug, including the kettle, the TV and an old convector heater brought into the room as the radiators didn't work. Unfortunately this was a last minute booking and we were unable to go elsewhere, so had to stay. To be fair the staff were pleasant and helpful when we asked for anything and did sort out an overcharging issue discovered when we arrived home but they were totally overwhelmed with trying to renovate and run a hotel at the same time.

Friendly staff. Good food. Clearly there are some issues regarding the management if the hotel as the decor was tired, some things like the bathroom extraction did not work and it was evident that underneath the beds had not been cleaned in a long time. But overall the stay was pleasant. Overpriced for what you get.

Plain but comfortable room. Bar and restaurant areas exceptoinally and clean and well organised and a credit to the staff; who were welcoming, friendly and always willing to go the extra mile. Food was beyond expectation; this is great place to eat; and takeaways seem to be very popular.
